Buffalo Sabres Rally But Fall To Predators

The Buffalo Sabres fall deeper into their losing streak as they fell to the Nashville Predators tonight by a score of 3-2. Early on in the game, the Buffalo Sabres had control of the play, but Nashville managed to score three goals on eight shots against goaltender Linus Ullmark. Besides possibly the second goal scored against him, the other goals cannot be put on his shoulders. There seemed to be a gradual breakdown of the team as a whole until the middle of the third period, and that is ultimately what led to the downfall of the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

More from Sabre Noise

Linus Ullmark was not looking like his typical self tonight, but the loss cannot be put on his shoulders. The Buffalo Sabres seemed to be lacking a key communication effort in their defensive zone, and on top of that, the Predators got a couple of lucky bounces in their favor; but thats a part of hockey.

As far as the offense is concerned, the Buffalo Sabres had an early chance to be on the board, but luck decided it was not on their side. Jack Eichel fired in a shot from the point on the rush and the puck made its way past the Nashville goaltender and it hit the post head on. The Sabres were not able to get to it in time and tap it in.

The offense did not really show up at all again until the third period. Evander Kane fired in Buffalo’s first goal of the night on a rocket wrist shot from the high slot. He started the comeback that ensued in the dying minutes of the game. With about a minute left in the third period, the Buffalo Sabres had a big push back as Jack Eichel scored the second Buffalo goal on a beautiful slap pass from Ryan O’Reilly. Though it didn’t mean much in the end, the offensive push back and rally was a sight to see.

Despite the loss itself, there are two players that I want to comment on for tonight’s game; Marcus Foligno and Zach Bogosian.

Marcus Foligno was a powerhouse for the Buffalo Sabres momentum tonight. Though he did take a couple of penalties, Foligno was one of the few players that was hustling on every shift tonight. He, along with his line mates Zemgus Girgensons and Nicolas Deslauriers were the biggest catalyst line for the Buffalo Sabre tonight, and they deserve to be recognized for their efforts in tonight’s game.

Zach Bogosian was the defensive leader of tonight in my opinion. He was out there doing what he does best; throwing hits, creating offensive pressure, and keeping scoring chances to a minimum. Bogosian was noticeable on the ice for every single shift he was out there for, so I want to recognize his efforts and skill despite the tough loss. I’m sure he, like many other in the locker room are getting sick of the losing already and the fire can be seen in his eyes.

Look for these players to continue their great performances over the next couple of games, and then the Buffalo Sabres will find their way to the win column again soon.
