The Buffalo Sabres stormed back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Winnipeg Jets at home Saturday. Adam shares his thoughts.

As a young dad of 3 kids—Little Ziggy (who is almost 2 years old), Belle (who is 5 months old), a Teppo Numminien (who is my 8 year old black lab)—free time is difficult to come by. It is easier for me to watch night time games due to the kids’ schedule. With today’s matinee, my schedule was a bit different…

Since free time is hard to come by I have to take advantage of every possible moment. Last night, the wife and I dropped the kids off (Zigster and Belle, Teppo stayed at home) at the in-laws. With my valuable free time today, I decided to synergize (that’s one of those stupid buzz words which means multitask). Needless to say, I did not watch the Sabres game today. However, I listened to the game in the garage while I worked on my El Camino…in case you gear heads are wondering, it’s a 1987 with a built u 4.3L V6. I did not want to put a 350 in it because ever other douchbag puts a 350 in their hot rod. I wanted to keep my car relatively stock…but enough car talk. I drank some Blue Lights, wrenched on the Chevy, and listened to Rick and Rob on the radio.

Even though I was listening to the game in a freezing cold garage, kicking back the Blue Lights, and laying on by back underneath a car almost as old as me, it was not a warm and fuzz feeling to listen to Buffalo Sabres play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret tell me that Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers opened the scoring on Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner.

More from Sabre Noise

As the 1st Period wore on, I wrenched away and downed some more Blues…the wife and I have this superstition that if one of us goes to the bathroom while play is going on, then our team will score because one of us isn’t there to watch it; it’s been a proven fact! Needless to say, when I went to see a man about a horse, Buffalo Ryan O’Reilly tied the game in the last minute of play!

During the 2nd Period, I continued to work on the El Camino. It pissed me off—and probably a lot of Sabre fans too—that former glass shooter Drew Stafford and prospect Joel Armia put the Jets ahead 3-1.

While I lay beneath the El Camino, I heard Rob Ray tell us that during the TV timeout, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma chewed out his team til the point where he was read in the face…

To start the 3rd Period, Buffalo’s own Marcus Foligno kicked off the Sabres’ comeback! Jeanneret stunningly portrayed the imaged beautifully in my head. There was some doubt and hesitation to whether or not Marcus scored, but the ref and Jeanneret confirmed it! Seconds later, Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons tied the game at 3 apiece…moments later, I listened to Rick Jeanneret paint a magnificant picture of Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe laying out Jets player Patrick Laine…then the Sabre began to take full control of the game

Within minute, it was great to hear Jeanneret portray Buffalo Sabres’ Captain Brian Gionta’s goal; it was poetry how Jeanneret told me that Gionta waited and waited and waited until he fired home the puck to give Buffalo the go ahead goal!

As time expired in regulation, RJ’s call of the game made me drop my work in the garage and run into Teppo’s room so that I could watch the scrum with Sabres goalie Robin Lehner and Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien!

As for my Sabres Game Challenge, I did not hear any boos when Drew Stafford touched the puck, but I did boo and swear when he scored. Both Stafford and Armia scored against their old team, so there’s 10 points right there.

And ford the record, according to www.accuweather.com, today’s high in Winnipeg was 3 degrees (http://www.accuweather.com/en/ca/winnipeg/r3e/morning-weather-forecast/48989).

Lastly, Grandpa Ziggy emailed me his thoughts about the game, “Hi Adam, too bad you did  not  watch the  sabers  game. The  news  cast said  it  was  a  game  of  the year, everybody  enjoyed  it! It looked after the 2  periods the  sabers  would  lose it?  It  was  3 to  1  for the  Jets  but  the  coach  talked to the Sabres  & they really  started to play  the  best game  of the  year. Thy  scored  in the  last  period  3 goals  & on top  what  a  fight. They clobbered the opponent. What an exiting game!  Yes, I am packing my  bags  for Raleigh  ,but the  weather  over there  is  not much  wormer  than here  in Buffalo, only  in the  30F.  I am tired of this weather. Grandpa.”
