The Buffalo Sabres face off against the Dallas Stars tonight, and it will be a great chance for them to prove that they are making strides in the right direction.

The Buffalo Sabres are coming off of a 5-4 win against the league’s worst Arizona Coyotes; a game where they had a 5-1 lead in the third period, and everything seemed to be going well. Arizona made a distinct comeback but couldn’t quite get the tying goal past Robin Lehner, and Buffalo walked away with an unnecessarily hard fought victory.

The seem to be collapse of the system that was working well all game was a bad sign, and Buffalo now has something more to prove. They were able to get ahead, but keeping that lead proved hard for them. For a team that is seemingly used to playing from behind, there should always be that sense of urgency, but it appeared to be lost in the waning minutes in Arizona.

Tonight they move on to the Dallas Stars to try and prove that they can string together some wins, and even keep a lead, which leads me right into tonight’s 3 bold predictions.

Prediction 1 – Buffalo wins the game by 3 goals

As far as bold predictions go, this one may seem like a bit of a stretch considering the outcomes of most games this year. But there is a reason to my supposed madness here, so please allow me to explain. Buffalo showed in Arizona that when they make the system work, and the chemistry is flowing between all the offensive lines, goals can and will be scored.

Kyle Okposo finally has the goalless piano off of his back, Sam Reinhart and Seth Griffith had some moments of chemistry and brilliance, and the Kane – Eichel – Pominville line have been gelling as good as any line in the NHL.

I honestly think that Buffalo wins the game, and they do it with a 3 goal margin.

Prediction 2 – Ryan O’Reilly has a multi point game

Ryan O’Reilly has been heating up as of late, and I see now reason for him to slow down. He is scoring goals and dishing out assists to his line mates (Benoit Pouliot being a key beneficiary here) and it has been refreshing to see.

So tonight, I say he gets at least 2 points, with one of those assists going to Kyle Okposo.

Prediction 3 – Evander Kane Scores 2 goals

Evander Kane has been one of the best and hard working goal scorers on the team this year. The benefit of playing with line mates that suit his style of play, and allow him to do what he does best is giving him confidence, which is leading to goals being scored.

The Dallas Stars will be starting Kari (cough cough let a ton in) Lehtonen, so I think the teamwork and chemistry of the Eichel line will lead to some Evander Kane goal scoring magic.
