Let’s take a look at the top rookies outside of the Buffalo Sabres organization in the Atlantic Division.

The Buffalo Sabres will start the 2018-19 season with 2 Calder Trophy hopefuls in the lineup: 2018 first overall draft pick Rasmus Dahlin and 2017 first round selection Casey Mittelstadt.

The Buffalo Sabres organization has won the Calder Trophy 3 times in franchise history: Gilbert Perreault in 1971, Tom Barrasso in 1984, and Tyler Myers in 2010. Newly acquired forward Jeff Skinner won the award with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010.

Among the other 7 teams in the Atlantic Division, there are some other top rookie that will be looking to make a bid at the Calder Trophy. Since the current division format was adopted in 2013, 2 of the 5 Calder Trophy winners have come from the Atlantic Division: Aaron Ekblad for the Florida Panthers in 2015 and Auston Matthews for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017.
