The NHL released the league schedule yesterday and it is glorious. What does the Sabres schedule have in store for them in 2021?

The Buffalo Sabres have their official schedule for the 2021 season. The NHL released all schedules yesterday afternoon, and they look fairly different than what we are used to. But let’s focus on the Sabres schedule and breakdown what is in store.

The Sabres will only be playing teams within the East Division. This includes the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Washington Capitals. Each team will play each other eight times to make up the 56 game regular season schedule.

We won’t get to see any regular season matchups against any Atlantic Division rivals except the Bruins, as the rest of the division has been split up. So if the Sabres were to play any of their regular division foes it would have to be a playoff matchup.

The Sabres open in Buffalo on January 14th vs the Capitals. Their final regular season game is currently scheduled for May 8th in Pittsburgh vs the Penguins. Just like other sports this year, changes could be made to the schedule if the league deems it to be necessary.

Most of the games on the Sabres schedule are a two-game series vs whoever they are playing over two or three days. There are a few instances where they just play a team once. Buffalo does this vs the Rangers and Flyers twice and the Devils once. The Sabres have one three-game series on the schedule, and that is against the Devils from April 6th through April 9th.

The Sabres start the season with two games vs the Capitals, then two at the Flyers, then two more at the Capitals. So a very tough opening week for Buffalo. But as it has been said before, this East Division is probably the most difficult division to be in this year.

The first time we get to see a Taylor Hall revenge game vs the Devils is on January 30th in Buffalo. I would definitely advise circling that game on your calendar.

Now that the schedule has been released, it finally really feels like hockey is back. I have a good feeling about the Sabres this year, but it’ll be a tough road to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This season will surely show us if this team is ready to compete, or if they are still a few pieces away.
