Sabres make their first trip to Washington: preview and TV info
The Buffalo Sabres will make their first trip to the nation’s capital tonight to play the first game of two this weekend against the Washington Capitals. The Sabres are coming off a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Flyers on Tuesday night and will look to turn things around tonight.
Buffalo currently sits at the bottom of the East Division with a record of 1-3-0, and the Capitals are third in the division with a record of 2-0-2. The Sabres really need to convert on their quality play and turn it into wins, as the team has looked good in every game they have played, but only have one win to show for it.
The Sabres have a real shot to take a couple of wins over the next couple of days as the Capitals will be without four of their key players for at least the team’s next four games. Washington will be without Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, and Ilya Samsonov as they violated the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol and were forced to quarantine after Samsonov tested positive for COVID.
The Capitals will certainly need to rearrange their lines for their upcoming games. It will be interesting to see how they handle all of the gaps in their roster.
To go along with all of these players that are unavailable for the Capitals, the Sabres have a few that are on the injury report as well. Although he returned to the ice this week, Kyle Okposo is doubtful today, but he may be ready to come back for Sunday’s game. Carter Hutton will not suit up tonight as he is still on the injury report from the hit he took on Tuesday.
The expected goalie matchup tonight is Linus Ullmark for Buffalo and Vitek Vanecek for the Capitals.
