The Buffalo Sabres will look to complete the perfect weekend today as they try to win again today against the New Jersey Devils. The Sabres took the first game of the back-to-back yesterday with a shootout victory.

Buffalo seems to have made it a regular practice to go to overtime as of late. Four of their last five games have needed extra time to decide the winner. As it does make for exciting hockey, I’m sure the team and fans would prefer to win some games in regulation and make sure their opponent does not collect a point, especially since all games are within the division.

The Sabres can credit much of their recent success to goaltender Linus Ullmark. Ullmark has been very good for Buffalo over the past week. He helped the Sabres to a 3-0-1 record over the past week and was the reason why they forced overtime against the Rangers, but they ended up losing that game. Ullmark was also perfect in shootouts in the two games that reached one this week. He stopped all six shots that he faced.

We saw Jack Eichel take a puck to the face in the third period of yesterday’s game, and he left the bench and walked down the tunnel towards the locker room. But as a relief for Sabres fans, Eichel returned to the ice later in the period and played the rest of the game, including partaking in the shootout, where he scored what would go on to be the game-winning goal for Buffalo.

We saw some fascinating line combinations from the Sabres yesterday due to Sam Reinhart’s absence and Tage Thompson’s return. It will be interesting to see if the Sabres stick with the same lines if Reinhart cannot play again today.

The starting goalies are expected to be different for both teams today. Look for the Sabres to start Carter Hutton and the Devils to start Eric Comrie.
