UPDATE: Tonight’s Sabres vs. Islanders game has now been postponed as the Sabres are waiting for their COVID test results back. The Sabres played the Devils this weekend and New Jersey has now had three games postponed due to COVID issues within the team. The game will be rescheduled to be played on a future date.

The Buffalo Sabres will take their talents to Long Island to face the New York Islanders for the next two games. These games will be the first time that Buffalo plays the Islanders this season. The Sabres will look to get back into the win column after dropping their last game to the Devils.

The Islanders have lost their last five games, the previous two being in overtime to the Flyers. New York will be very desperate to end this skid and try to work their way back up the standings. They are currently last in the East Division.

The Islanders’ offense has been less than stellar so far this season. They rank 29th in the NHL in goals per game with 2.11 and 21st in shots on goal per game with 29.3. Their power play has not been anything to write home about either as they convert on only 15.8% of their power play opportunities, 20th in the league.

New York’s defense has been substantially better than their offense thus far. The Islanders rank 11th in the league in goals allowed per game with 2.67. They also give up the sixth least amount of shots on goal per game with 27.1. The Islanders will look to their defense to shut down the Sabres’ inconsistent offense.

The Islanders currently have Anthony Beauvillier on their injury list with a lower-body injury. The Sabres still have Sam Reinhart on their injury report, but he traveled with the team and has a chance to play vs. the Islanders.

The goalie matchup is expected to be Linus Ullmark for the Sabres and Semyon Varlamov for the Islanders. Varlamov has performed well this season, posting a .924 save percentage and only allowing 2.00 goals per game.
