Sabres prospect to miss opening night game in Rochester
The Buffalo Sabres AHL affiliate is set to open their season tonight. The Rochester Americans will take on the Utica Comets on the opening night of this shortened AHL season. But the Americans will be without one of the Sabres’ top prospects for their first game of the season.
Jack Quinn will be forced to quarantine and miss the Amerks’ first game of the season, head coach Seth Appert said on Wednesday. Although Quinn did not see playing time this past weekend for Buffalo against the Devils, he was on the team’s taxi squad.
After the weekend series against New Jersey, many players on the Devils landed on the NHL’s covid protocol list. Due to this, the Sabres were forced to quarantine and miss multiple games. Since Quinn was on the team when exposed, he also needs to undergo the necessary quarantine. So he will need to wait just a little while longer to make his professional hockey debut.
The 19-year-old right wing has yet to make his NHL debut as he has only been a member of the Sabres taxi squad thus far this season. He looks to get plenty of playing time for the Americans once his mandatory quarantine is up. Once he is ready to join the team, look for him to be a central piece on this Rochester Americans team.
When Quinn is ready to get back on the ice, it will be the first time he will see live game action since he played in the IIHF World Junior Championships before the NHL season started. Quinn was a teammate of current Sabres rookie Dylan Cozens on Team Canada and made it to the finals of the WJC but fell to Team USA. Quinn tallied one goal and four assists in seven games for Team Canada in the WJC.
We should be excited to see Jack Quinn in Rochester this season. It will be a great way for him to develop and prepare to play in Buffalo for the Sabres. And at such a young age, the more games he can play within the entire Sabres organization, the better.
