The Buffalo Sabres will be tasked with putting their last two games behind them tonight when they take on the Washington Capitals in Washington DC. Buffalo is coming off back-to-back poor performances against the New York Islanders, which both ended in losses.

Buffalo will be put to the test against a talented Capitals team. This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these two teams. They are 1-2-1 against Washington so far this season, so they will look to improve on that record tonight.

There is some good news for Sabres fans, however. As of yesterday afternoon, all of the Sabres players that were in the NHL’s health and safety protocol are now off the list. Casey Mittelstadt was the last member of the Sabres to be removed from the list. This will be the first time since February 1st that Buffalo will have no one in the league’s protocol.

Buffalo will look to turn around their poor play since returning from their COVID pause. Once some of their key players return to the lineup, the Sabres should be more competitive than what we have seen in the last two games. Cozens and Lazar are currently game-time decisions tonight, and Ristolainen isn’t expected to join the Sabres on this road trip.

It is expected that Linus Ullmark will be back in net for the Sabres after having the last game off. Vitek Vanecek will likely be starting for the Capitals.
