The Buffalo Sabres finally ended their slump yesterday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils. The Sabres ended their four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win in New Jersey. Buffalo finally showed positive signs yesterday after looking lost for the three previous games.

The Sabres got off to a quick start when Colin Miller scored at the 5:26 mark of the first period to give the Sabres their first lead in what seemed like forever. Sam Reinhart added a pair of goals in the second period to give Buffalo a 3-0 lead.

The Devils came out hot in the third period, netting two unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes. But the Sabres held them off down the stretch and won their first game since January 30th.

But in the third period of the game, Jake McCabe was injured attempting a check on Nico Hischier. McCabe went down holding his right leg/knee area after his leg buckled as he was making the hit. He could barely put any weight on his right leg and needed Cody Eakin and Kyle Okposo to help him off the ice.

After the game, when asked about McCabe, Buffalo’s head coach Ralph Krueger said he is “very concerned.” This could be bad news for the Sabres as they are already shorthanded at the defense position, with Rasmus Ristolainen still unavailable as he continues to recover from COVID-19. There is currently no specific timetable for Ristolainen’s return, and it certainly looked like McCabe could miss some time based on immediate reaction.

Next. Sabres: It is time for someone to hold some accountability. dark

With this lack of depth on defense, the Sabres will rely on Will Borgen to log a decent amount of playing time. Borgen was paired up with Rasmus Dahlin yesterday and was very impressive. Buffalo will be hoping he can continue his stellar play as they need him now more than ever.
