Sabres look to make it two in a row against the Devils tonight
The Buffalo Sabres are looking to start a winning streak tonight as they face the New Jersey Devils for the second game in a row. The Sabres’ last game against the Devils was on Tuesday night, and Buffalo came away with a 4-1 victory.
Linus Ullmark had his best performance of the year the last time the Sabres and Devils met. He made 41 saves and held a shutout until the final minute of the game. Buffalo will look to cut down on the number of shots given up to help take some pressure off their goalie tonight.
New Jersey is now on a three-game losing streak, two of those games being against the Sabres. If the Sabres can get another win against their East Division rival tonight, they will leapfrog them in the standings and continue their quest to make up all the ground they lost over the past few weeks.
The Sabres have now won two of their last three games. They need to gain some momentum to try and get back into the race for a playoff spot. But with all the injuries piling up in Buffalo, the odds looked to be stacked against them.
Rasmus Ristolainen was back on the ice this morning in Buffalo for the team’s morning skate, but he is not expected to play tonight. It is a great sign to see him back on the ice, and we could be close to seeing him back in games.
Jeff Skinner and Jack Eichel were both absent from the morning skate today. But as per Ralph Krueger this morning, Eichel will play tonight. Skinner is expected to be scratched for the third straight game.
Carter Hutton is expected to be in net for the Sabres tonight, as Ullmark has started four games over the last week. So it makes sense for the Sabres to give him a night off. Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to be in net again for the Devils.
