The Buffalo Sabres could be without some big names today as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the first game of a weekend back-to-back in Buffalo. The Sabres suffered some significant injuries on Thursday night that could carry over and become a problem for Buffalo.

Sabres captain Jack Eichel is currently listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He was a late scratch before Buffalo’s game on Thursday night. Head coach Ralph Krueger said that Eichel felt discomfort in pre-game warmups. He did not skate in practice yesterday, so it is currently up in the air if he will play today.

Another injury that will significantly affect the Sabres is the injury to Linus Ullmark. Ullmark went down after making an incredible glove save in the first period of Thursday’s game. He was clearly in some discomfort but stayed in the rest of the period before Carter Hutton entered the game to start the second period.

Ullmark is not expected to be available for either game for the Sabres this weekend. Hutton, Jonas Johansson, and Dustin Tokarski were the three goalies in practice yesterday for Buffalo. I’d like to see Johansson gets some starts because we have seen enough of Hutton to know that he is not the answer.

But in some more positive injury news, Rasmus Ristolainen seems to be very close to being ready to return to gameplay. He had to spend some extra time recovering from COVID-19 before he was back into game shape.

Jeff Skinner was on the ice for the Sabres in practice yesterday, so it looks like Ralph Krueger may finally allow Skinner to get some playing time again. And with how Tage Thompson has played, Skinner needs to be the first choice between those two.
