If one thing is for sure, this season has led to some interesting postgame press conference quotes from the Buffalo Sabres after games. Most of these quotes address their lack of success, as Buffalo currently sits with a record of 6-12-3 and the least amount of points in the league.

After last night’s dreadful performance against the New York Islanders, Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger expressed his thoughts with the media, as he does after every game. Krueger said that they don’t need to “reinvent our style of play.”

Saying that this team does not need to reevaluate their style is interesting, especially with the performances that the Sabres have had recently. Buffalo has been outshot in four of their last five games. And a majority of the time, it’s not even close.

Outshot 38-28 vs. Flyers

Outshot 39-23 vs. Flyers

Outshot 40-32 vs. Devils

It is not uncommon for the Sabres to give up an abundance of shots per game as they average just over 30 shots on goal allowed per game. It doesn’t really matter what goalie is in net in that case. If you are giving up 30 plus shots per game, you aren’t going to get many points, especially when you barely score two goals per game.

Even when the Sabres get shots on goal, very few are from any high chance areas. Producing so few high-scoring chance opportunities but giving up so many should scream that you need to “reinvent” your style of play. If Buffalo continues with this playstyle, they will continue to be embarrassed each game they play.

A team that is struggling as much as the Sabres requires a head coach that can make changes and fire up and motivate his team. Motivation stems from the coaches, and Buffalo obviously has zero motivation right now.
