The Buffalo Sabres will hope to avoid extending their current losing streak to ten games tonight as they face the Pittsburgh Penguins again. The Sabres lost to the Penguins on Thursday night by the score of 5-2.

Buffalo will be without two of their better forwards tonight as both Jack Eichel and Dylan Cozens will not be available to play. We knew going into today that Eichel was going to be out for at least a week, and per coach Ralph Krueger this morning, Cozens is listed as day-to-day.

Krueger also gave an update on Jack Eichel’s injury status this morning, and unfortunately for Sabres fans, it is not good. Krueger said that the star captain would be out for the “foreseeable future.” He never gave a specific timetable to expect Eichel to return to play, but it will not be any time soon.

With both of Buffalo’s top-line center options unavailable, it will be interesting to see how the lines will be structured as we advance. There are a few options that the Sabres could go with, such as Sam Reinhart or Eric Staal taking over the first-line center duties.

Carter Hutton is likely to start in goal for the Sabres tonight as Jonas Johansson has started each of the last three games for Buffalo. Hutton has struggled so far this year, posting a goals allowed average of 3.40 and a save percentage of .883.
