The Buffalo Sabres take on the New Jersey Devils tonight in a battle of teams that are playing the worst hockey in the league. As we know, the Sabres have looked absolutely hopeless for about three weeks now.
Last night, Buffalo extended their current losing streak to 11 games. They were never even close to winning against the Capitals yesterday, as they lost 6-0. The defense looked the worst as they have all year. They were consistently allowing the Capitals into high-scoring areas and giving up scoring chances.
Carter Hutton did not have a good night if you look at his numbers. He made 24 saves on 30 shot attempts from the Capitals, which amounts to a .800 save percentage. But this should be more on the shoulders of the defense rather than Hutton. The defense needs to be better going forward, or it will not matter who is in net for the Sabres; they will not win many games.
This Sabres vs. Devils matchup is an interesting one, but for all the wrong reasons. Buffalo is now losers of 11 straight games, and it really looks like they will never win again. They look so dismantled and unmotivated each game. The Devils have lost 11 straight home games, and this game is being played in New Jersey. So something will have to give.
The last team that the Sabres beat was the Devils back on February 23rd. Out of the six wins Buffalo has on the season, three of them came against the Devils. So this game is the best chance that the Sabres have had for a win in a while.
