This Sabres postponement seems too similar to their last one

The Buffalo Sabres were supposed to play a game with fans in the arena in Buffalo for the first time in over a year this afternoon. But instead, we are waiting to see if the Sabres will have to enter another team quarantine after the Boston Bruins announced that they have placed five players on the COVID protocol list since playing in Buffalo.

It was announced yesterday that today’s matchup between the Sabres and Bruins would be postponed due to the Bruins adding players to the league’s health and safety protocol. The players that have entered COVID protocol for Boston include Jake DeBrusk, David Krejci, Sean Kuraly, David Pastrnak, and Craig Smith.

These two teams played each other on Thursday night. But before that game, the Bruins had someone enter the league’s health and safety protocol. After an abundance of contact tracing, the game was deemed safe to be played. And now we have seen the Bruins COVID issues balloon since playing Buffalo on Thursday.

As of now, it looks like playing the game on Thursday may have been a mistake. I was stunned to see that Thursday’s game went on as scheduled after the reported potential COVID issues that morning. You would think the league would have learned from their mistake after the Sabres were out for two weeks earlier this season after playing the Devils when there were COVID issues within their team.

This scenario is setting up to be almost the exact same situation that sidelined the Sabres last month. It would seem that the NHL would want to act with an abundance of caution, especially with what happened between the Devils and Sabres earlier this year. But, the game went on, and now the Sabres are anxiously waiting.

Next. Sabres trade a goalie and sign a goalie. dark

We should know whether or not Buffalo will be able to continue without more postponements within the next day or two. Their next scheduled game is currently set for Monday night in New York against the Rangers.
