Sabres goalie depth is very thin as they take on the Penguins

The Buffalo Sabres will once again try to snap their current losing streak. The Sabres have now lost 14 consecutive games. They will look to snap this streak tonight and get interim head coach Don Granato his first win as the head coach in Buffalo.

The last time the Sabres played was on Monday night in Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers. After jumping out to an early lead, Buffalo could not capture a win as they fell 5 to 3. To add insult to injury for the Sabres, Carter Hutton left just a few minutes into the game with what appeared to be a lower-body injury. Dustin Tokarski came into the game after Hutton left.

There is some good news for Sabres fans, however. Starting goalie Linus Ullmark returned to practice yesterday for Buffalo, so it seems that he is nearing a return for the Sabres, which would be a huge boost for the team.

But until he is ready, Buffalo will likely have to lean on Tokarski and newly signed goalie Michael Houser. The team also announced yesterday that prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was brought up to the taxi squad. Once Ullmark is healthy, I am sure Luukkonen will be sent back down to Rochester to get more playing time for the Americans.

Tonight, it looks like Tokarski will get the start against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that averages just over three goals per game and just under 30 shots on goal per game. This will be an excellent test to see how good the Sabres goalie depth can perform.
