After losing to the Boston Bruins again last night, the Buffalo Sabres are now 0-5 against them this season. These two teams play each other again tonight, and it is understandable for Sabres fans not to be excited about this game. But there is a reason why you may want to tune in tonight.

The Sabres’ top goalie prospect, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, is set to make his NHL debut against the Bruins tonight. With both Linus Ullmark and Carter Hutton out with injury, Dustin Tokarski has taken over the starting goaltender role for the time being. And as he is set for a day off tonight, Luukkonen will be starting in net for Buffalo.

The 22-year-old netminder has made 25 career starts in the AHL and has not found a whole lot of success in Rochester. Through his 25 starts, he has a save percentage of 0.886 and allows 3.35 goals per game. But with all the goalie injuries that the Sabres are facing, and with them being out of the hunt for a playoff spot, this is an excellent time for the team to see what they have with UPL so far.

The Sabres have struggled against the Bruins this season, and Boston has won six straight games. So this will certainly be a challenging matchup for Luukkonen’s first NHL game.
