The Buffalo Sabres will take on the New York Rangers for the final time this season tonight at 7 pm at Madison Square Garden. The Sabres are coming off a 6 to 3 loss to the Rangers on Sunday afternoon. They will look to bounce back tonight and put a dent in New York’s playoff hopes.
Buffalo’s rookie goalkeeper, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, will get his second career start in the NHL, and this will be his first road start. Luukkonen got his first career win on Friday night against the Bruins in a 6 to 4 Sabres victory. He made 36 saves on 40 shots. He will look to build on that momentum from his first start in tonight’s game.
The Sabres will have to limit Mika Zibanejad if they want a shot at the win tonight. Zibanejad tallied a hat trick early in the second period. Buffalo dug themselves into a hole early and could not come back from it.
There is a chance that the Sabres do not see Carter Hutton or Linus Ullmark again this season. According to Don Granato, Hutton suffered a setback in his recovery from his lower-body injury, and Ullmark seems to be a ways away from a return.
