Once the puck drops tonight, the Buffalo Sabres will have officially had their fifth different goalie start a game this season. Michael Houser will get not only his first start for the Sabres, but his first career start in the NHL. Houser has spent nine years between the ECHL and AHL but has never started in the NHL.

His first career start will come against the third-ranked team in the East Division, the New York Islanders. Buffalo has struggled against the Islanders this season. Well, actually, “struggled” may be an understatement. Buffalo is 0-5-0 against New York so far this season. These back-to-back matchups these teams have today and tomorrow will be the last chance the Sabres have to get a win against the Islanders.

Buffalo has looked less than stellar lately. They have only one win in their last seven games played. In contrast, the Islanders have won four of their last seven as they prepare to make a run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

New York has already clinched their spot in this year’s playoffs, but they sit only one point ahead of the Bruins for the three seed, but they are also within striking distance to improve their seeding. So the Islanders will not take the Sabres lightly, and they will look to improve their playoff seeding to give themselves an easier road to a potential Stanley Cup Championship.
