Sabres news: Eichel’s camp expect him to be out of Buffalo soon
After a weekend of hectic activity for the Buffalo Sabres, we should not expect things to calm down any time soon in Buffalo. Even after the big trades that the Sabres made on Friday, they still have Jack Eichel as a member of the team, but Eichel’s agents do not think this will be the case for much longer.
Jack Eichel’s agents, Peter Fish and Peter Donatelli, told Elliotte Friedman, “Our expectation is that Jack is going to be traded in the near future, and all of our discussions have been centered around that issue.”
Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has made it clear to The Buffalo News that he would be open to having Eichel remain on the team as he said, “I would have no problem at all if Jack Eichel is on our team when we start training camp.”
Adams seems to be in no rush to trade the 24-year-old star. The asking price for Eichel has been steep, and Adams will make sure he gets what he thinks Eichel is worth if Jack is indeed traded. Multiple draft picks and young players would be involved from any team in exchange for Eichel.
We saw the Sabres trade away two cornerstone pieces on Friday. The first being defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. Buffalo sent Risto to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the 14th overall pick (which was really the 13th pick due to Arizona forfeiting their first-round pick), a 2023 second-round draft pick, and defenseman Robert Hagg. This was an incredible exchange for Adams and the Sabres.
Later on Friday, we saw Sam Reinhart also get traded from Buffalo. The Sabres sent Reinhart to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2022-first round pick and goalie prospect Devon Levi. Although we were expecting to see Reinhart go, it was still sad to see when it happened.
Eichel will fetch a greater return than either Reinhart or Ristolainen did. Adams will not settle for anything less than what he thinks Jack is worth, so he could wait a while to find a deal that he likes.
