A few significant headlines came about in the world of the Buffalo Sabres over the last 24 hours. Two of Buffalo’s top players will miss their preseason finale this afternoon. But in better news, Sabres’ number one overall pick Owen Power shined in his season opener at the University of Michigan.

The Buffalo Sabres will play in their final preseason game this afternoon at home against the Detroit Red Wings at 3 pm. This final preseason matchup will be used as a final tune-up before the regular season begins for Buffalo on Thursday, October 14th against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Sabres will not have access to all their starters today, however. Rasmus Dahlin and Victor Olofsson will not be available for Buffalo’s final preseason game as they are both dealing with a soft tissue injury. But both Dahlin and Olofsson are expected to be back at practice on Monday. So they are not in doubt for opening night, which is now just under a week away.

Owen Power will be a welcome sight when he makes his NHL debut in Buffalo, especially if he is patrolling the blue line with Dahlin. But Sabres fans will have to wait a year until then. For now, Power is going to dominate the college hockey world at the University of Michigan. Power had his season opener last night against Lake Superior State, and he did not disappoint.

Power had three assists and one goal for a total of four points in the game. He tallied all three of his assists in the first period, and his goal came in the third period on a shot from the blue line to put the University of Michigan up 6-1.

Although it is a bit of a bummer that Sabres fans won’t get to see Owen Power in the blue and gold this season, he will certainly be worth the wait and will be a main piece to the youth movement in Buffalo for years to come.
