The Buffalo Sabres hot start to the season continued last night. The Sabres took care of the Vancouver Cancuks 5-2 to extend their undefeated start to the season. Buffalo has to be considered the biggest surprise so far in this early season, and Sabres fans are having a great time.

With their third consecutive win, the Sabres have done something already this season that they never did throughout the shortened season last year. Buffalo never won three games in a row last year. They topped out at two. It only took them three games to beat their longest win streak since February 11th through February 16th of 2020, which was not too long before the league shut down due to the COVID pandemic.

This hot-start has also provided the Sabres with their best opening to a season since the 2008-2009 season, where they started 4-0-0. Buffalo has a tough task for their next game. The Boston Bruins come to town on Friday night, so this game will be a great test for Buffalo as the Bruins are easily the best team that they will have played so far this season.

Although the Sabres have not started 3-0-0 in 13 years, fans in Buffalo are not unfamiliar with hot starts to begin the season. We are all familiar with the start of the 2018 season when the Sabres were 17-6-2 and in first place in the league late in November. Then they proceeded to fall apart and miss out on the playoffs once again.

In years past when the Sabres started off hot, those rosters had some of the star players necessary to maybe make a push for the playoffs. Then the fan base bought all the way in during the hot start, only to be let down again. But these first three games have provided Sabres fans with some of the most enjoyable hockey they have seen in years, and it is being sparked by players you may not have expected, such as Craig Anderson and Kyle Okposo.

This year, with this roster, no one really expected anything. So fans are just having fun watching a good, fun brand of hockey on the ice in Buffalo, something that they haven’t seen in a long time.
