After starting the season with three straight wins, the Buffalo Sabres have now dropped their last two games, one in regulation and one in overtime. Buffalo’s last time out was on Saturday night as they fell 2-1 in overtime against the New Jersey Devils. Tonight the Sabres face defending back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Although Buffalo has not gotten a win in either of their last two games, they have not looked bad. The end of the Devils game was probably the worst stretch that we have seen all season, but they still managed to salvage a point on the road.
This would be a huge statement win against the Lightning for Buffalo right before they embark on their first road trip out west after tonight’s game. After tonight, the Sabres’ next four games include trips to Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Jose, and Seattle. Buffalo’s next home game after today is not until November 6th when the Red Wings come to town.
Craig Anderson looks like he will likely get the start tonight for Buffalo as he has not played since last Friday. The Lightning will be starting back-up goalie Brain Elliott tonight.
