The Buffalo Sabres are teaming with the Buffalo Bills and local organizations to raise funds to fight food insecurity in Black and African American communities.
The Buffalo Sabres are making a huge impact off the ice as they team with the Bills with the Better Together initiative. Besides the Buffalo Sabres Foundation and Buffalo Bills Foundation teaming up donate $120,000 to Better Together throughout the first week of February, Perry’s Ice Cream is also getting in on the action, pledging to match the first $20,000 in donations.
Buffalo Sabres and Bills stepping up in the community
For the project, the Foundations have also partnered with the African Heritage Food Co-op, Buffalo Center for Healthy Equity, Buffalo Freedom Gardens, Buffalo Go Green, and Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH). To further augment their efforts, the Foundations are also inviting local fan bases on for the ride to bring nutritious food to Black and African American communities throughout Buffalo.
Funds will go toward helping communities build and sustain gardens rich in fresh vegetables and to transform food deserts into thriving grocery stores that will provide access to high-quality food. It’s a drive the Buffalo Sabres and Bills Foundations, their local partners, and the Buffalo community are rising up today to create a better tomorrow.
And while their performance on the ice has not left fans talking Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Sabres performance off the ice deserves a round of applause and special recognition, along with the Bills. Better Together is also a great initiative to get behind if you have been looking for ways to help the community.
You can learn more about helping the Bills and Sabres Foundations and their partners achieve Better Together’s goals at bettertogetherbuffalo.org. The event begins January 31st and runs through February 4th. Every participant will receive a special Edreys Wajed-designed Better Together pin for their donation.
