Buffalo Sabres: When was the team’s last seven-game point streak?
In March 2022, the Buffalo Sabres did something they haven’t done in a while: They earned at least one point in seven straight games.
While the Buffalo Sabres still suffered debilitating overtime losses in March 2022, they have a lot to be proud of. In most sports, a win is a win and a loss is a loss. But in hockey, teams that suffer overtime losses still pick up a point in the regular season, which is something, at least.
And if you want more fun, the Sabres earned at least one point in nine of their last ten games. Yes, since March 10th this team this team has been on fire, suffering just one loss in regulation. So when was the last time the Sabres earned a point in seven straight contests?
The Buffalo Sabres last seven-game point streak came in…
November 2018, when the Sabres embarked on an amazing 10-game winning streak. They finished 11-3-1 that month. And just like the team’s seven-game point streak in March 2022, overtime affairs were the thing.
Three of the Sabres wins came in shootouts against the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, and Detroit Red Wings. Their four overtime wins occurred twice against the Montreal Canadiens, and once apiece against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the San Jose Sharks.
They also showed a terrific blend of offensive prowess and defensive fortitude over the ten-game streak. scoring four or more goals on four occasions while holding opponents to two or fewer goals in six games.
Of course, we all know what happened to the Sabres as the 2018-19 season progressed. They never had another winning month all season unless you count their 2-1 record in April 2019. But by March, a 2-12-2 showing guaranteed yet another losing season.
The Sabres broke millions of hearts that season. And while they won’t earn a trip to the playoffs following their current seven-game point streak, it’s possible they can do something that didn’t occur following that magical November: Repeat their success in consecutive months.
