The Buffalo Sabres had a great month of March. They have been playing good hockey so it begs the question, they can be in the playoffs next year?
The Buffalo Sabres are coming off a good month of March. They went 8-3-3 and are currently on a 7 game point streak.
In a season where everyone expected them to be really bad, they have been much better than what people expected. With that being said, it begs the question.
Can the Buffalo Sabres be a playoff team next season?
It’s a crazy concept but it could happen. Firstly, they have the core players to get them over the hump. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and Rasmus Dahlin are just a few of the players who are cornerstones of the franchise.
Then in the pipeline, they have players such as Owen Power, Jack Quinn, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Sabres fans should be very excited for this core because if everything goes right, they can lead Buffalo to the postseason.
Another reason why this team can make the playoffs next year is they have competent management. Both head coach Don Granato and general manager Kevyn Adams have done a good job running the Sabres and the results show, not only the team as a whole but the players as well.
Say what you want to say about the Jack Eichel situation but Adams has done a good job of building the current roster. As for Granato, the team is even more competitive dating back to last year after taking over for Ralph Krueger.
It seems like the players love playing for him and the fans seem to love him as well. Buffalo is 24-33-11, which is a lot better than most people expected and a lot is credited to the management.
So, how can the Sabres make the playoffs next season? It all starts with free agency. I personally don’t expect them to make a lot of moves but they will be active. Goaltending will definitely be a priority and getting better defensively should be on their list.
We’ll see what next season brings. But with this current core and management, plus some help in free agency, it’s possible Buffalo can break this drought and make the postseason.
