The Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for defenseman Owen Power’s debut in the very near future and the 2021 NHL Draft’s top pick brings plenty of buzz

Growing up in Mississauga, Ontario, you can somewhat call new Buffalo Sabres defenseman Owen Power a hometown kid. Someone whose situation is not much different from Joe Burrow of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, also a number one pick in his respective draft.

Like Power, Burrow grew up close to the professional sports team that drafted him. And while you can argue Power’s hometown is closer to Toronto than Buffalo, it didn’t stop him from crossing the border numerous times to watch the Sabres play.

So yeah, Power has a lot in common with Burrow. And who knows? Perhaps Power will lead the Sabres on an identical Cinderella run in the NHL that Burrow pulled off with the Bengals in the NFL?

Also like Burrow, Power displays a confident demeanor that some might mistake as cockiness. But hey, you don’t become the top overall pick in any draft without displaying an edge to your game. And it’s something Power did routinely at Michigan.

Unlike Burrow, who entered a borderline tragic situation in Cincinnati, Power is joining a Sabres team that has played much better since March 2nd. Yeah, they’ve lost three out of their last four, but you can’t deny how well they played two of the Eastern Conference’s best teams.

While Power’s presence for the final few games of the season probably won’t turn the Sabres into perpetual winners, he will give them a glimpse into the future. Power will join a young defensive unit, becoming the sixth member aged 25 or younger. Besides youth, what else does Owen Power bring to the Sabres? Keep reading to find out.
