Buffalo Sabres: Winger Kyle Okposo deserves some love
By Zach Jezioro
After a rough couple of seasons, Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo deserves some love in what has become a year of redemption.
In the midst of an entertaining Buffalo Sabres season, one player that isn’t getting enough love is forward Kyle Okposo. The last couple of seasons have been rough for Okposo but this year is a completely different story.
In what has been a reborn year for Okposo, he has 19 goals and 23 assists in 69 games played with the Sabres this season. He scored 11 goals combined the last two seasons, according to Hockey-Reference, so he definitely is playing like the player Buffalo first signed before the 2016-2017 season.
He’s in the 6th year of the 7 year contract. But he’s been a pleasant surprise for the Sabres this season.
Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo deserves to return for another season
Just like a majority of the players on the roster, Don Granato is part of his recent success. The system that Granato has in place is beneficial to everyone on the roster but it seems like Okposo is a changed player because of it. Fans always want players on their teams to have success and it seems like Sabres fans are really happy for Okposo and he deserves it.
With the departure of former Sabres captain Jack Eichel, Okposo has been viewed as a leader for the younger guys on the team. He is the assistant captain but is seen as the actual captain with the way he handles himself both on and off the ice. Okposo deserves some recognition because he has been one of the positives from this season.
Kyle Okposo has one more year left on his contract but I wouldn’t be surprised if the team brought him back on a cheap contract extension after next season. He deserves to get some recognition and it’s good to see him having success this season.
