The Buffalo Sabres won eight games for the second straight month as they head into their final two contests of the 2021-22 season.
The Buffalo Sabres 2021-22 season has been a mixture of the good, the bad, and ugly. And until March 2022, they saw more of the bad and the ugly. However, over the past two months, they are enjoying a 16-8-3 record, good for 35 points.
And while the Sabres didn’t get things going until a little too late in the season, here is a statistic that will boggle your mind: They earned 1.29 points per game in their previous 27 contests, which averaged to an 82-game schedule, equals 106 points.
Things are looking up in Buffalo. So much, they rose once again in the Atlantic Division power rankings.
Buffalo Sabres rise again in the power rankings
8. Montreal Canadiens
It is never a good sign when you lose eight straight. But the Canadiens at least had a few hot streaks this past season to look fondly on.
7. Detroit Red Wings
The Canadiens eight-game losing streak alone gives the Red Wings life. Yet two straight losses show that this team remains among the NHL’s bottom dwellers.
6. Ottawa Senators
The Senators scored a convincing win against Montreal this past week to log their third-straight victory. Will they finish the season strong?
5. Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres accumulated 35 points since March 2nd and have been one of the NHL’s most exciting teams over the past two months. The days of perpetual rebuilding have ended.
4. Boston Bruins
The Bruins got it together this past week, winning three out of four. Now, they have an easy matchup against the Canadiens.
3. Tampa Bay Lightning
In their previous two contests, the Lightning outscored opponents 14-3. Can they keep it up against the Florida Panthers?
2. Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs last two losses came to Tampa and the Panthers. Despite the mishaps, they won six of their previous seven.
1. Florida Panthers
Is there a hotter team currently in the NHL? The Florida Panthers have won 13 straight games and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Overall, the Sabres look like a completely different team, a far cry from what they were. Had the season started in March, they may easily have found themselves in the top half of these rankings. But, they have a lot to look forward to next season.
