The Buffalo Sabres have three first round picks for this years draft. Should they trade one or more of those picks to acquire a proven player?

Thanks to the Tampa Bay Lightning eliminating the Florida Panthers from playoff contention, we know the Buffalo Sabres first round picks for this years draft. They have THREE first round picks at 9th, 16th, and 28th overall.

The 9th pick is their own, the 16th came via the Vegas Golden Knights from the Jack Eichel trade, and the 28th pick is from the Florida Panthers as compensation in the Sam Reinhart trade. It’s an exciting time to be a Sabres fan and it’s going to make this year’s draft very interesting.

Is there a draft-day trade on the horizon for the Buffalo Sabres?

With that being said, should Buffalo consider trading away a first round pick or two to land a talented player to help out the team during the offseason? It’s a two sided question so let’s take a deeper dive into this situation.

Let’s start with the trading side. If you can use your picks to get a player who can help out this current core of players then general manager Kevyn Adams should do it. Whether it’s one pick or two picks, if it helps the team going forward then he should do it. The team needs to improve when it comes to goaltending so it’s possible Buffalo can land a reliable goalie with their picks.

Not only a goaltender, but maybe a defenseman or a top six player. It’s definitely a good thing to think about if you’re Kevyn Adams.

The Sabres already have a good prospect pool but if they stick with keeping the three first round picks then they’re just adding onto an already good pool. Obviously every draft pick isn’t guaranteed to work out well but if Adams want to keep building for the future then it makes sense. It’s an interesting discussion but we’ll see what happens once the draft and free agency arrives.
