The Buffalo Sabres had a better season last year than most people expected. Can they keep the momentum going in 2022-23 and beyond?

The Buffalo Sabres missed the postseason for the 11th straight season, but the good news is they were much better than most people predicted them to be. They ended the season 32-39-11, with 75 points and finished fifth place in the Atlantic Division.

This is the first time in a long time where fans are looking forward to next season after seeing some growth from this team. With that being said, let’s look ahead to next season and make an early prediction on how far we can expect this team to go next season.

How far can the Buffalo Sabres go in 2022-23?

It all depends on what happens in the offseason, specifically in free agency. It’s been well known the Sabres need to upgrade in goaltending. If they can get a reliable goaltender, it’s possible Buffalo makes a run for the postseason.

The core they have right now looks really good. On top of that, they have some great prospects that should be on the roster next year such as Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka. Looking at their cap space, they have the most money going into the offseason than any other team, according to Spotrac.

It’s too early to tell, but the expectations for Buffalo are a bit higher going into next season. They set a foundation down and have a new culture that is exactly what you want your sports team to be like. If they don’t make it next season, then the year after that could be the season they finally break the playoff drought.

It will depend on what they do in the offseason. If they can land a solid goalie and a couple more players who can contribute alongside with the core of players they have now, the Buffalo Sabres could very well be in the postseason next year.
