Goaltending is the number one priority for the Buffalo Sabres in the offseason. There are other areas where they can as well.

It’s clear that the position where the Buffalo Sabres need to improve the most is goaltending. However, there are more areas where the team can get better. In this article, we won’t talk about the goalies.

The other two areas that we’ll be talking about is the offense and the defense. But which one should they get better in? Let’s dive in and find out.

Key areas the Buffalo Sabres need to improve in free agency

Starting off with the offense, it’s pretty solid as it is. With the core players they have such as Tage Thompson, Jeff Skinner, Alex Tuch, Dylan Cozens and Peyton Krebs. Then the depth players like Kyle Okposo, Zemgus Girgensons, and Casey Mittelstadt.

Lastly, you have players in Rochester such as JJ Peterka and Jack Quinn who will most likely be up with Buffalo next season. So to wrap up the forward discussion, I don’t think there will be a lot of action when it comes to getting players.

You don’t want to mess up the chemistry with the guys on the team. Maybe a couple of forwards to help out, but general manager Kevyn Adams should look to bolster up the defensive core.

Before we get into the free agents on defense, let’s talk about who the Sabres have currently. Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Henri Jokiharju are already locked in.

If the Sabres can somehow sign a defenseman like Kris Letang, it would be a great addition to your defensive core. Your top four would be as follows: Dahlin-Jokiharju and Power-Letang (if signed).

Then the last pair would have Jacob Bryson, Mattias Samuelsson and Casey Fitzgerald would be battling it out for roster spots. The Sabres have the most cap space and aside from goaltending, defense should be focused on more but we’ll see what Kevyn Adams does.
