Buffalo Sabres: Another icon will get his banner raised in the rafters

A year after Rick Jeanneret had his banner raised, another Buffalo Sabres legend will be joining. That legend is Ryan Miller.

April 1st, 2022 was an emotional day if you’re a Buffalo Sabres fan. As the team was hosting the Nashville Predators, they were honoring a legend before the game. Long time play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret had his own banner going up into the rafter joined alongside other Sabres legends.

Next season, another Buffalo icon and a fan favorite will be joining him up in the KeyBank Center rafters. Goaltender Ryan Miller will be getting his number 30 retired at some point next season. With the schedule not out yet for next year, you know Sabres fans are already waiting for the date to be announced.

Buffalo Sabres set to retire longtime goaltender Ryan Miller’s number next season.

Miller is retired but Buffalo fans were waiting for this day to come and it’s well deserved for Ryan. He spent 12 years with Buffalo, where he is the current leader for the franchise in multiple categories such as games played, wins and saves. During his time in Buffalo, Miller also won the Vezina Trophy in 2010.

When Miller got traded to the St. Louis Blues in 2014, it left every Sabres heartbroken and why wouldn’t it? He the was the face of the franchise for a long time and him leaving Buffalo was a difficult pill to swallow but it was time. The Sabres were about to go through a rebuild so trading away Ryan to have him try and pursue a Stanley Cup was the right thing to do.

It’s well deserving for the former Sabres goaltender and you know it’s going to be another emotional night at the arena whenever it happens.

Miller was a huge part of the Sabres success back in the early 2000’s and in 2010 when Buffalo won the division. Whenever you go to a Sabres game, there’s a very good chance you will see a Miller jersey walking around. He is beloved by the city of Buffalo and as mentioned before, he’s well deserving of it.
