Another player that is set to be a free agent is Kris Letang. Here is why the Buffalo Sabres should bring him in and what impact he’ll have if signed.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang appears set to enter free agency. As stated in multiple articles, the Buffalo Sabres need to get better defensively and if Pittsburgh doesn’t extend Letang, Buffalo should definitely consider signing him.

His stats are pretty impressive for a 35 year old defenseman. According to Hockey-Reference, Letang had 10 goals and 58 assists in 78 games played with the Penguins last year. In the playoffs, he scored 1 goal and registered 3 assists in the first round. So why should the Sabres sign a 35 year old player? He’s still a solid player.

Why the Buffalo Sabres should go after Kris Letang

Not only because he’s solid, but he knows what it takes to not just make the playoffs, but to also win the Stanley Cup. As a 3 time Stanley Cup champion, he would be a great addition to this Sabres team who are still young but are also very talented. While goaltending should be Buffalo’s number one priority, improving the blue line should also be on the list.

As you can see in the tweet above from The Charging Buffalo, Darren Dreger of TSN says that general manager Kevyn Adams is looking to add onto the blue line. In this case, Letang would be a great signing for Buffalo. Not only should the Sabres sign Letang for what we’ve talked about but he can be a great mentor for Owen Power.

With what Letang has accomplished in this league, it’s just another reason for Buffalo to bring him in. Lastly, what would a contract look like? Well for someone his age, a 1 or 2 year deal would be the best. Personally, I wouldn’t go more than 2 years. Buffalo has the cap space but Adams shouldn’t go crazy length wise.

More. Kris Letang would make an ideal pairing with Owen Power. light

So we shall see what transpires. But landing Letang would be a huge upgrade on the Sabres blue line for the 2022-23 season.
