NHL Rumors and The Hockey Writers have linked Ville Husso to the Buffalo Sabres. So is there a chance Kevyn Adams shocks the NHL world?

In a previous article, I stated Ville Husso would be a prize free agent for the Buffalo Sabres. That was back in April, and I have since accepted and supported the fact Kevyn Adams is most likely to sign a bridge player like Braden Holtby to team with Craig Anderson and likely, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

Now, there is talk from multiple outlets like NHL Rumors and The Hockey Writers of Husso potentially being on Adams’ radar. While I still believe the most likely route is the bridge route, I’m not thoroughly surprised that a potential Husso signing is being talked about. I am a big believer in smokescreens, and it is likely Adams has thrown one.

Are the Buffalo Sabres linked to Husso?

Listen, the Sabres need a viable goaltender and Craig Anderson isn’t the answer. He is a backup at age 41 who shouldn’t play in over 15 games this upcoming season and will preferably be a healthy scratch on most nights. Not that he has no value – Experience and mentorship go a long way with young hockey teams, and Anderson has both. Personally, I supported his return for the reasons mentioned above.

I would say that while there are rumblings about a potential scenario where Husso signs with the Sabres, I doubt this happens. Yes, smoke will blow here, but it’s much more likely a bridge player like Holtby mans the net for the majority of next season’s contests while Luukkonen pitches in if he impresses in camp and in the preseason.

Husso would be a great addition, no doubt. And while I believe in smokescreens, I don’t feel this is any more than speculation. Odds are, Husso either re-signs with the Blues or he goes somewhere else. But I am not counting on him signing unless Adams doesn’t think Luukkonen can grow further and if he doesn’t believe Devon Levi or Erik Portillo will sign.

While it is getting harder to see Portillo coming to the Sabres, it is likely that Levi signs. If Adams thinks Luukkonen can improve in the preseason to the point he’s ready to man the net at least part time in Buffalo, then Ville Husso is not coming to town.
