On Wednesday, July 6th, the NHL revealed the Buffalo Sabres 2022-23 schedule. What is in store for the blue and gold this season?
The NHL revealed the 2022-23 schedule for all 32 teams on Wednesday, July 6th, and the Buffalo Sabres have quite an exciting season to look forward to. They will open the season on October 13th against the Ottawa Senators at 7pm before squaring off against the Florida Panthers two days later at 1pm on October 15th.
Following the two-game homestand, the Sabres will travel north of the border for dates with Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. It is a road trip reminiscent to that taken in March 2022 when the Sabres shut out the Flames and won a thriller in overtime against the Canucks. To complete the trip, they will travel south of the border to face the Seattle Kraken on October 25th.
Buffalo Sabres 2022-23 schedule announced: Full Breakdown
The Buffalo Sabres will enjoy an advantage early in the season when they embark on a four-game homestand between October 27th and November 2nd. Three of their four opponents are Montreal, Detroit, and Chicago, teams that missed out on the playoffs the previous season. The Pittsburgh Penguins, however, will give them a challenge.
They will go on the road for two games before returning to the KeyBank Center for another four-game stand between November 8th and November 15th. So if the Sabres manage to stay healthy early, they may take full home ice advantage here that could keep them competitive early on in the Atlantic Division. They will enjoy another two-game homestand around Thanksgiving between November 23rd and November 28th.
A home date with the Colorado Avalanche will test them on December 1st, but not before they face the Tampa Bay Lightning three days prior on the 28th. The New Year may also not seem so enticing, as they will celebrate New Year’s Eve in a matinee affair in Boston before they travel to Ottawa to face the Senators on New Year’s Day.
The January 23rd through January 28th road trip is going to be a gauntlet, however, as the Sabres will face four playoff-caliber teams in the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, Winnipeg Jets, and Minnesota Wild. But again, a healthy Sabres team could end up with a few more wins than they garnered this time last season.
Both the Sabres and the Team Up North (Toronto Maple Leafs) will have their schedules marked in red on November 19th, February 21st, and March 13th. So in case you’re looking catch an epic rivalry in action, mark those calendars.
The toughest part of the schedule will occur in April, however, in which the Sabres only have two home games and five road games. But if they can close out the season like they did this past April, things will keep looking up in the Queen City.
