Even though it’s still early in free agency, it seems like the Buffalo Sabres have their goaltenders for the 2022-23 NHL Season.
It’s only July and even though free agency is still going on, it seems like the Buffalo Sabres have their goaltenders for the upcoming season. Craig Anderson, Eric Comrie, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Malcolm Subban are the Sabres goaltenders as of now. Once all is said and done and opening night is here, who will be the Sabres goaltending tandem?
Obviously a lot can happen between now and then but it seems like these are the goalies Buffalo will be rolling with. In this article, we’re going to discuss who will be the tandem for the season and the workload for that goalie.
Who will be the top goaltender tandem for the Buffalo Sabres in 2022-23?
As for the tandem, I think it will be Craig Anderson and Eric Comrie. I know fans are calling UPL the future number one goalie and want him in Buffalo, but I believe Anderson and Comrie will be between the pipes for the Sabres. According to Hockey-Reference, both goalies didn’t do too bad last year.
Starting with Anderson, he had a record of 17-12-2, with a GAA of 3.12 and a SV% of .897. For Comrie, he went 10-5-1. His save percentage was .920 and his goals against average was 2.58.
Comrie’s stats are a lot better obviously but Anderson missed a majority of the season with injuries. Even with his numbers, Anderson was also solid in the 31 games played with Buffalo last season.
For the workload, Comrie played 19 games with Winnipeg last year. If he’s with the Sabres to start the season, I think he will get 20-25 games. With Connor Hellebuyck getting pretty much the entire workload, this is Comrie’s chance to show he has starter potential. However, I don’t think he’ll get the most games.
I do think Anderson will get the bulk of the games. I will say 35-40 games for him. Now obviously things can change and one of these guys could play better than the other. But these are how I think things will play out for Buffalo’s goalies going into the upcoming season.
