Victor Olofsson was arguably the hottest scorer on the ice during the last two-and-a-half months for the 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres season.

Victor Olofsson scored 15 goals over the final two-and-a-half months of the Buffalo Sabres season and 28 points total. When you do the math: 28 divided by 2.5, you get  11.2, rounded to 11 points per month. If Olofsson continues that pace over a six-month season, he could end up scoring 66 points assuming he remains healthy in 2022-23.

But, with the added chemistry that another season brings plus a new contract, even if it is a short one, it wouldn’t be surprising if Olofsson made a leap in his play. So perhaps 66 points is nothing more than a median within a range of his 49 points from last season and a potential ceiling of 83 points.

We know Olofsson is capable of performing, hence the 49-point floor. Not great, but not bad. Especially if you’re a Sabres team that could use any and all points. But the 83-point ceiling also isn’t far-fetched, considering the leaps and bounds young players make when they build a good rapport with their teammates. It was something we saw from Olofsson last season.

Reliving Victor Olofsson’s 2021-22 season with the Buffalo Sabres

One big reason a 66-point projection and an 83-point ceiling is realistic for Olofsson is how hot he started off last season. Between October 14th and October 31st 2021, Olofsson scored nine points, five goals, and four assists.

Clearly, nine points in eight games translates to an All-Star-caliber season. But then bad luck struck Olofsson, as a wrist injury caused him to miss three weeks.

He didn’t look like the same player after that, and he recorded just 12 points and no goals. Not what you want from a winger playing on predominantly the second line. But as mentioned in the above section, Olofsson rekindled the hot streak he embarked on back in October and finished the season strong.

So much he even earned a spot on the first line to end the season. So will that trend continue in 2022-23? And if so, will Olofsson end up leading the Buffalo Sabres in points? Keep reading for more.
