The Buffalo Sabres are a team full of question marks as the preseason approaches. Here are the top three questions facing them in 2022-23.

The Buffalo Sabres are trending up in the NHL and that should be a breath of fresh air to fans. And while it is premature to expect this team to play in the postseason, there are a few burning questions regarding the state of this team that should provide much-needed clarity as the season progresses.

Below, you will find the top three questions facing the Sabres in 2022-23, and detailed answers over how I foresee them playing out. And while I am no good at predicting accurate outcomes, by using data from 2021-22, I can at least hypothesize on what should or will most likely occur.

Three questions facing the Buffalo Sabres for the 2022-23 season: Question #1 – What will the goaltender situation look like?

If you read some of my previous articles on the situation, you will know my only consistency regarding the Buffalo Sabres goaltending situation is my inconsistency on it. My general idea is that Eric Comrie starts, though many are projecting Craig Anderson to man the net as the main guy.

But listen, the Sabres need to answer this question: Which goaltender will take them further in 2022-23? On paper, it’s Comrie, as his play in 19 games was far better than what Anderson showed us in 31. Yes, Anderson played in over one-third more contests, but the younger, fresher Comrie will logistically find himself in the net on opening night.

Ideally, Comrie starts at least 45 games while Anderson supplements for between 10 and 15 starts. My hope is that the Sabres re-sign Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and call him up for the remaining 22 to 27 games. But I can only see that happening if he earns a spot on the roster with a solid training camp AND the Sabres don’t mind keeping a third goaltender on the active roster.
