With it being September, hockey is officially back! Here are a couple of things fans should look for during Buffalo Sabres training camp and preseason.

It is officially September which means NHL hockey will be played! Training camp should be getting started in a couple of weeks and Buffalo Sabres fans have a lot to look forward to. In this article, I’m going to give you a couple of things you should look out for during training camp and the preseason.

Buffalo Sabres Prospects Challenge

The first thing you should keep an eye on is the young talent on this team. What I mean by this is the players who fans saw for a small sample size. Players like Owen Power, JJ Peterka and Jack Quinn. There are other players who fit this category but those names are the headliners.

Fans will see them in the Prospects Challenge, but I want to see how they do in the preseason as well. Out of those three players, Quinn is the one I’m keeping my eye on the most. Injuries cut his season short, but he looked pretty solid in the few games he played.

Goaltending

You should also keep an eye on this subject the most because we’ve been talking about it all offseason, the goaltending. For this season, the candidates include Eric Comrie, Craig Anderson, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Malcolm Subban. Comrie is the one that personally I am paying attention to the most.

We all know what Anderson brings but if Comrie is being praised by management and the fanbase, I want to see what he can do. He has good numbers as a backup but as we all know, you get a lot more reps if you’re a starter.

Assuming the tandem will be Anderson and Comrie, this is his chance to show the organization that Comrie could be a starter in the NHL. He would also have a chance to prove he is the long-term fixture at goaltender. But with Devon Levi likely signing following the season, it will not be easy.

2022 first round picks

Lastly, and this could go in the first point as well, the Sabres recent draft picks. Matt Savoie, Noah Ostlund and Jiri Kulich were all taken in the first round of this years draft. The Sabres might have a problem with all of this talent but it’s a good one. On paper and assuming all of these players live up to the hype, Buffalo has a lot to think about regarding the future.

There are obviously other things fans might want to keep an eye on but these are the first ones that come to mind. The NHL season is so close and it all starts with training camp and the preseason, getting underway this month.
