Former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller will see himself enshrined in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in November 2022.

Yesterday, the hockey universe found out Buffalo Sabres franchise icon Ryan Miller will be inducted into the U.S Hockey Hall of Fame.

Miller is having a pretty good summer. A couple of months ago, the Sabres not only are inducting him into the franchise Hall of Fame, but they are also retiring his number. Last year, Sabres fans saw Rick Jeanneret get his own banner in the rafters. This year, it’s Ryan’s turn.

Where do we start with Ryan Miller? Let’s talk about his impact on the Sabres. In 2021, Miller called it a career. In a career that saw him play with 4 teams, Miller was Buffalo’s franchise leader in wins, games played and saves. Let’s keep in mind, he passed Dominik Hasek in all of those stats except for shutouts, where Miller finished second behind Hasek in that category.

Ryan Miller’s legend started long before the stepped onto the ice for the Buffalo Sabres.

He brought some amazing memories while he was with the Sabres. Before getting drafted by Buffalo, Ryan won the Hobey Baker Trophy, which is given to the top college player while he was at Michigan State. He also played in a few World Championships for Team USA before getting drafted.

Transitioning away from the Sabres, Miller’s 391 wins are the most games won from an American born goaltender. When it comes to USA Hockey, the 2010 Olympics is when he shined. Even though the Americans lost to the Canadians in the Gold Medal Game, they won a silver medal while Miller posted a .946 save percentage in the tournament.

In a losing effort, Miller was a huge reason why Team USA was so close to winning gold. After those Olympics, Miller got a huge ovation in an opposing arena. Ironically enough, it was against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the guy who scored the game winning goal for Team Canada was Sidney Crosby.

Ryan was the one who got the louder ovation, not Sid. It goes to show you the impact he had on Americans. This is a well deserved honor for Ryan and he is one of the best American goaltenders to play the game.
