Rumors! Could the Buffalo Sabres land Jason Robertson?
Jason Robertson had an amazing season last year. His future with the Dallas Stars is up in the air but could the Buffalo Sabres acquire him?
Jason Robertson is a player on the rise and the Buffalo Sabres may be interested in his services. According to Hockey-Reference, the Dallas Stars forward scored 41 goals and registered 38 assists in 74 games played with the Stars last season.
In 2020-21, he scored 17 goals and 28 assists. Robertson is only 23 years old and you don’t see players that young score 40 goals or more that often. With that being said, Robertson is a restricted free agent. When an NHL player is a restricted free agent, you will see teams start to inquire about that player with the hope of trading for him and giving that player a long term contract extension. Could the Sabres be a team to land the 23 year old?
On the After the Whistle Show, Craig Rivet dropped the rumor on Sabres fans. During their most recent show, Rivet said he heard the Sabres were kicking tires on Robertson.
Will the Buffalo Sabres trade for Jason Robertson?
Obviously no one knows how true this is but it’s pretty interesting regardless. This could mean nothing but it could also mean something. Everyone knows we live in a age where someone could say a rumor like this and it means nothing in the end. However, you have fans like me where they hear a rumor and start to get excited.
Imagine if the Sabres do actually land Robertson though, that would be a great move for the franchise. He would be good player to have in the top six, the question is what would it take to get Robertson?
Buffalo has the assets to land him, we know that. The issue is would general manager Kevyn Adams be willing to part with the players he has? It may be risky to ship your talent away for a guy who had one great season but it could also be a low risk trade if the Sabres do land Robertson.
We’ll see what happens as time goes on. But it’s definitely something to keep an eye one if you’re a Buffalo Sabres fan.
