Recapping the Buffalo Sabres surprising October 2022 run
The Buffalo Sabres coming off a surprising October. Let’s recap the month and relive a few of the better highlights before steamrolling into November.
We are in the month of November, and if you’re a Buffalo Sabres fan, you must be feeling pretty good. The Sabres had a great month of October. In the nine games the team played, they have a 6-3-0 record, and are currently sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division with 12 points.
Obviously things could change tonight with the team off and other divisional opponents playing but regardless, the Sabres are in good shape. With us being in November, I thought I would go back into October and briefly recap it as well as give some love to some of the players.
So as stated earlier, the Sabres went 6-3-0 in the month of October. Buffalo looked good in all but a game or two in the month of October. What I want to really talk about is the four game road trip where the Sabres played Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle.
Specifically, the two games against the Oilers and Flames. Both of those teams are very good and could possibly make deep playoff runs in the postseason. Even though Edmonton dominated the Sabres in the third period, Eric Comrie stood on his head and was the deciding factor in the win for Buffalo.
The Buffalo Sabres (mostly) dominated in October 2022
In the Flames game, Calgary was starting to make a push but Buffalo once again held their ground and got the victory. Overall, the team looked really good and will look to build off from October into November.
Some more bright spots from October, Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Dahlin has been impressive from the start but Tage is really starting to find his game. Ironically enough, both of them have the same exact stats. In nine games played, they each have six goals, six assists and 12 points.
Of course, Tage had that monster game on Halloween where he registered his second career hat trick and recorded six points. While Dahlin could be in the running for the Norris Trophy, Tage is picking right where he left off from last season and it’s great to see.
Another bright spot that might be surprising, the Sabres goaltending. Both Comrie and Craig Anderson have been awesome to start the season. Anderson is 3-0 with a GAA of 1.66 and a SV% of .946. For Comrie, he is 3-3 with a SV% of .902 and a GAA of 3.34. I know it’s still early in the season but Buffalo’s goaltending has been very impressive.
To wrap up this article, the question is can the Sabres continue to play well in November and going forward? Obviously this fanbase has seen the team get off to good starts and completely fall on their face as the season went along. However, this team just feels different.
Now a lot is going to happen in between now and April, but this team just seems like they will be able to sustain the success they had. We’ll see what happens but fans should be very excited about this team going forward.
