Buffalo Sabres fanbase is only empowering Jack Eichel

They say forgiveness is a sign of strength. Unfortunately, the Buffalo Sabres fans who attended KeyBank Arena did not show that strength.

Every time Jack Eichel took the ice in the Buffalo Sabres loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, their fans booed and shouted things I won’t repeat here. Overall, it was a classless act by the fanbase who, for some strange reason, flat out refuse to move on from Eichel, who scored four points and only seemed to play a better game as the fans hurled insults his way, ending the game with a hat trick.

And okay, I’ll concede for a second, Eichel said something he shouldn’t have back in March. And it should have ended there The Sabres got their 3-1 win over Eichel and his Knights off of a steal from Alex Tuch that sealed Vegas’ fate.

Instead of moving on, Sabres fans treated Eichel the same way fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers treated LeBron James back in 2010 during his first game back in the Land. And LeBron, who was roughly the same age as Eichel at the time, took it in stride and enjoyed a career outing, much like Eichel put on tonight.

Buffalo Sabres fans need to forgive, forget, and move on from Eichel

Unless the fanbase wants to give Eichel a reason to come out and put their team to shame every time the Golden Knights skate into KeyBank Arena, then by all means, keep booing him. Keep rooting against Eichel more than you root for the hometown team.

Because in all honesty, I saw about 15,000 haters in the stands at KeyBank Arena tonight, and it seemed as though they wanted Eichel to lose more than they wanted their Sabres to win. Overall, it was an embarrassing display, and this is the first time I’ve been so disappointed in the fanbase.
