The Buffalo Sabres will have two difficult games in a row coming up. They can also shock the world and show the NHL they have arrived.
After dropping their third game in a row, the Buffalo Sabres will be hosting old friend Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights tonight. Once Vegas leaves town, it won’t get any easier for the Sabres as the Boston Bruins will roll into Buffalo next. Yes, the next two games for the Sabres will feature the best team from the Western Conference and the best team in the Eastern Conference.
Even though the next couple of games seem like a gauntlet, we have seen the Sabres beat the best teams in the NHL. Tonight’s game against Vegas and Saturday’s game against Boston will be far from easy but it’s definitely possible the Sabres can pull off upsets in both of them.
In this article, here are a few ways Buffalo can shock the world and beat both Vegas and Boston. First and foremost, the power play needs to be better. Even though they score here and there, I think the power play could do much better. Especially against great teams like the Golden Knights and the Bruins, you need to take advantage if they give you the chance to have a man advantage.
The Buffalo Sabres can shock the world tonight and on Saturday
Whoever is in net for the next two games are going to be a huge part in if the Sabres can win. Either Craig Anderson or Eric Comrie will need to play their best game this season. Against these two powerhouse offenses and with the amount of injuries on Buffalo’s blue line, it won’t shock me at all if the Sabres give up a ton of shots.
Both goalies have been good to start the season but whoever is in net, whether one guy plays both games or they split each game, the Sabres goaltenders are going to be the most vital part in my opinion when it comes to upsetting Vegas and Boston.
Aside from the goaltending, the other most important thing is to stay out of the box. We all know how deadly the Golden Knights and Bruins are offensively and you cannot afford to give them an advantage. Even though the Sabres penalty kill has been solid so far, staying out of the box the next two games will be crucial if they want to upset both teams.
Lastly, everyone on the roster is going to need to be a factor somehow or someway. Whether it’s scoring or something else, Buffalo is going to need a complete team effort tonight and Saturday night. We saw it when Vegas came to town last year, they just need to do it again today and against the Bruins.
These next two games could definitely have the Buffalo Sabres have a under .500 record if they lose both in regulation but even if they can split the next two games, they will beat a good team either way if they indeed to split. But if they can pull off the upset against BOTH teams, what I listed today is what it will take to do so.
