Tage Thompson is almost single-handedly saving the Buffalo Sabres
If there has been one consistent area of success amidst the Buffalo Sabres seven-game losing streak, it’s center Tage Thompson.
The Buffalo Sabres have scored just one goal in two of their last three games, meaning they avoided further humiliation during this losing streak that seems as though it does not want to end. The man finding the back of the net? None other than Tage Thompson, who has been, next to Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, the best player on the ice.
Twice now, Tage’s ability to score goals has saved the Sabres from suffering two shutouts in the last three games, one to the Boston Bruins, and another to the Ottawa Senators. And to make matters even more interesting, Tage is slowly becoming a human highlight reel.
Tage Thompson helps Buffalo Sabres avoid getting shutout again
Against the Boston, Tage made a remarkable play where he weaved through three Bruins and showed remarkable puck handling as he snuck one past goaltender Keith Kinkaid to put the Sabres up 1-0. It was a highlight reel goal to say the least, but on Wednesday night against Ottawa, Tage showed us he wasn’t done quite yet.
This time, he had some help from Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin (who else?), who found him sitting the left circle and firing a 97 mph laser into twine. Tage, who has been known to shoot the puck so hard he’s already broken several sticks this season, once again displayed incredible power with the one-timer.
It was Tage’s 12th goal of the season, tying him for third in the NHL with Andrei Svechnikov and behind only Bo Horvat and Connor McDavid. The goal also marked his 22nd point of the season, where he is currently tied for ninth in the category with Artemi Panarin.
It’s not easy to find rays of light amidst this streak. But when you look to players like Tage Thompson who can at least help the Sabres avoid total disaster, you will find some beacons here. You just need to know where to look.
