The Buffalo Sabres have dropped eight straight games and are coming off yet another poor performance last Saturday night.

The Buffalo Sabres already dropped a game to the Montreal Canadiens earlier this season, but that loss served as a catalyst that catapulted them to 7-3-0 to kick off November. Unfortunately, the good times did not last, and the Sabres are now 7-11-0, struggling in all facets of the game.

On paper, the Canadiens appear to be light years ahead of the Sabres, but we’ll see what’s happening come April 2023 before we rush to judgment, shall we? Anyway, let’s address the burning question: Will the Sabres finally end the streak tonight? Here are the odds.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Canadiens Odds – Game 19

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are +0.5 underdogs on the road against the Canadiens. The Over/Under sits at 6.5, and the Sabres moneyline is -105. The moneyline for the Canadiens is -114.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Canadiens Prediction – Game 19

All signs point to Mattias Samuelsson and his physical edge returning for this one, so if that’s the case, it will give the Sabres a major boost. When Samuelsson is present, this team is 4-1-0, and their goaltenders have had a remarkable 0.944 save percentage. Want more fun? When Samuelsson is on the ice at even strength, the overall save percentage is a ridiculous 0.980.

While I won’t get so brash and claim that this team is going to automatically win with Samuelsson present, I will say that their odds of doing so increased dramatically. Without Samuelsson, the goaltending sits at roughly a 0.858 save percentage.

Further, Buffalo has allowed a GAA of just 2.2 with their best supporting actor in the lineup this season. Since Samuelsson’s injury, the Sabres GAA sits at 4.15. While Samuelsson wouldn’t have saved the entire situation given the Sabres most recent injury bug, given the discrepancy of what this team looks like with and without him, it is safe to say they at least would have looked better.

So will that translate to a win tonight? Let’s have some fun and say the Buffalo Sabres take it if Samuelsson indeed dresses and plays, 3-2 in overtime.
