The Buffalo Sabres have young talent capable of making leaps and bounds this season, and Jack Quinn is looking like one of those players.
Jack Quinn is currently ninth on the Buffalo Sabres with nine points in 16 contests. And of those nine points, three have found twine, including two in a recent win over the St. Louis Blues. Quinn also rode a three-game points streak going into Friday’s loss against the New Jersey Devils, and is slowly looking like the first round pick the Sabres thought they were getting.
Not that he hasn’t, but a slow start to the season that involved sitting him for a few raised some eyebrows. Since those scratches, Quinn has shown vast improvement, logging a double-digit shooting percentage and even playing some fair defense.
Quinn is one of those players who you will see improve steadily as the season progresses. And while he is not currently looking like a contender for the Calder Trophy, he will turn heads between now and January 14th.
Jack Quinn will make leaps for the Buffalo Sabres
Right now, Quinn is averaging just over a half-point per game, nine in 16 contests. I’m looking for, given his recent points streak, him to hit the three-quarter mark in points. Assuming he plays in all 21 contests from now until mid-January, that will put him between 15 and 17 points, giving the winger between 24 and 26 in 37 projected outings.
He won’t just improve in the scoring category. With five takeaways and 11 hits, look for an even stronger output from Quinn defensively, especially if he remains on the Cozens line that also includes the tenacious J.J. Peterka.
Quinn won’t put up mind-boggling numbers, but he will excel from a rookie standpoint as the 2022-23 season wears on. And this could set the stage for a darkhorse run at the Calder Trophy when the season progresses into its second half.
